The MX60-Pro Front End One is a versatile mic, line and instrument channel strip that delivers the full suite of Drawmer processing before recording to tape or hard disc. Designed for both project studios and live sound, it combines a high-quality preamp, gate, de-esser, compressor, limiter, EQ and multiband tube saturation in a single rack unit - providing exceptional control, character and flexibility at an affordable price.
The MX60-Pro's discrete-component mic preamp is drawn directly from the legendary Drawmer 1960, delivering warmth and clarity with wide dynamic range. It accepts mic, line or instrument-level signals, with balanced +4dB and unbalanced -10dB inputs, switchable 48V phantom power and phase reverse. A high-impedance front-panel instrument input allows easy connection of guitars, basses, synths and drum machines.
The MX60-Pro incorporates Drawmer's proprietary Programme Adaptive circuitry for smooth, musical dynamics control. The gate automatically adjusts its timing characteristics for stable operation without chatter. The de-esser uses a floating threshold that continually adapts to the signal, removing sibilance transparently with male/female voicing options. The VCA-based compressor — derived from the MX30 and DL241 — provides effortless level control with automatic attack and release, plus user-adjustable ratio, threshold and make-up gain. A preset limiter at +16dB ensures reliable peak control.
The three-band EQ combines high and low shelving filters with a fully parametric mid-band offering variable frequency, Q and ±18dB of cut or boost. It's equally at home for subtle tonal shaping or more creative contouring during tracking or mixing.
I was going to single out the compressor and de‑esser as being worthy of special attention — but then, the mic amp is also extremely good, and I can't really complain about the EQ either.
The MX60-Pro's multiband Tube Sound section introduces authentic analogue warmth and harmonic richness across three independently adjustable frequency bands. From gentle saturation to full-bodied drive, it can emulate the sound of vintage tube microphones or add modern character and presence.
A master output stage provides output metering and a variable fader from OFF to +15dB, with dual-stage soft/hard limiting indicated by yellow and red LEDs for smooth, controlled output under all conditions.
